One Month To Go
The Wedding Dress: Arrange for the final fitting. If you are having a dress made you would most probably have had a number of fittings. However, it is now time for the final one. Also, don't forget your accessories for the day - tiara, veil, shoes etc.
The Banns: At least three weeks before the wedding the Banns must be posted at your local Town Hall. This is so that anyone who could object to the wedding who does not know about it could find out. This is a legal requirement. As with the meeting with the Chief Rabbi's office, if you say that you live together a Rabbi, under Jewish law, may refuse to marry you.
Guests: Invitations should be starting to come back. Keep a record of all the acceptances and refusals. Two weeks before, chase up any outstanding guests.
Confirmation of Numbers: Once you have had all replies in it is time to let the venue and caterers know. Then decide how many tables you will need and get started with the dreaded table plans. Once you know the number of tables, tell the florists so they know how many table arrangements to do.
The Wedding Night: If a hotel room doesn't come with the booking make sure you book somewhere now otherwise it could be back home for the night! If the hotel holding the function does include a room but it doesn't feel like a bridal room, then a handy hint is to get a friend or relative to decorate it with balloons, streamers and confetti. Check whether the hotel has late-night room service. If not, book some food now because the chances are you'll feel a bit peckish after the wedding.
Video & Photographs: Let the Video man know what songs and photos you would like on the video that way you have more chance of having the video ready when you get back from your honeymoon. Inform the photographer of all the pictures you would like to be taken. This makes sure you don't forget any people and saves time with photographs which you will be thankful for later.
Hair & Make-up: Visit your hairdresser and make-up artist and make sure you like what they are going to do on the day. Remember, it is about what you want to look like, not what they want you to look like. If you are not happy with what they are suggesting, please do tell them. Try to take along your veil to the hairdressers', especially if you have hair that could be difficult to hold it.
The Honeymoon: Make sure you have everything you need for your honeymoon, clothes, tickets, cash and travellers cheques.
Speeches: By now all the men should have their speeches written or they should, at least, know what they are going to talk about. The Bride and her friends should have also decided by now whether they want to say a few words. A word of caution with speeches - think about your audience. Some things way be hilarious to you and your friends, but appalling to your parents' friends and the Rabbi.
Thank You Gifts: It is always a nice and welcome gesture to buy a small gift for all the people who have been involved in the wedding - i.e., parents and bridesmaids and page boys
