The kick-off to the Middlesex season began on the most perfect Summer’s day in Watford.
Belmont & Edgware won the toss and put Bharat Olympians into bat. Saul Weitzman (2/9) and Gavin Diamond opened the bowling and gave nothing away. Weitzman broke through the opening pair with his accuracy and included a beauty around the batsman’s legs.Eddie Davis and Neil Myeroff continued to put the pressure on the batsman. Stuart Davis (2-15) also kept one side very tight with some excellent bowling in the heat.
Captain Richard Wienburg (5/32) came into the attack with his spin which always tempts the batsman into playing bigger strokes but the pitch showed more grip and turn than Hamilton on his Bridgestones. This proved too much as Wienburg first dismissed Nilchit, their main batsman and then continued to take another four wickets including a hat-trick to finish off the innings for just 92.
Bharat Olympians took to the field after tea and would have to pull something special out the hat. Their opening bowlers kept things tight but opening batsman Bronson Ritterman (49*) and Eddie Davis didn’t give anything away. Ritterman was later joined by new-comer Daniel Durban (29*) and together they accumulated the winnings runs which included a few big sixes all around the field to close on 98/1 in just 20 overs.
Congratulations to Belmont & Edgware 1st XI for a solid performance. This weekend sees them take on the Graces in another Middlesex League clash.
