Stuart Lustigman Column
Inevitably last weekend's sport's pages made reference to John Terry 'scoring again' while 'playing away' as he clinched the winner against Burnley (pretty predictable). Quite how the FA are supposed to deal with the indiscretions of the England captain is difficult to see when they had something approaching a good old fashioned sex farce stage show going on in their own establishment during the days of national coach, Sven-Göran Eriksson. I just struggle with whole issue whereby Terry's morals have been called into question not just by the press but by his own professional colleagues who, too often, demonstrate a total lack of integrity and morality when seduced by pecuniary temptation.
Thanks very much to the 'British citizen' who put my name forward to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for me to attend a Royal Garden party given by Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace for my "outstanding services to football". Clearly The Queen reads the JN. It is certainly not every day that one gets the opportunity to meet such a famous person and to spend time in such illustrious company. Her Majesty must be thrilled.
It's amazing how relative time can be. As I have ESPN my neighbour came over to watch his beloved Chelsea. I should have explained that no matter how loudly he shouted at the TV, the players really couldn't hear him. With 10 minutes to go he urged his team forward looking for the winner, worried that there was far too little time remaining. Then in the 82nd minute Chelsea scored! "You've won it", I exclaimed. "Don't be so sure", heresponded, "There's still a long way to go!"
With memories still vivid from the 18th Maccabiah in Israel last year, Maccabi GB is now inviting applications for sportsmen, women, boys and girls to participate in the European Maccabi Games taking place in Vienna, July 2011. Full details and an application form are available online www.maccabigb.org. Highly recommended.
