Maccabi Hold Tennis Finals Day

Wednesday 11th November 2009

Maccabi GB held the final day of their National Doubles Tennis Tournament on Sunday - and it saw Rob Levy and Simon Sugar take the spoils of victory in the open category.

The event, which was sponsored by Barnett Ross Auctioneersm, saw the victorious duo took on Daniel Cordell and Rob Taub in the final, though both sides played some sublime tennis on their way to the final. In what was always going to prove a tight contest, Taub and Cordell went into the final with the slight advantage having won the only previous encounter between the two.

Levy and Sugar started by far the stronger of the two pairs, taking an early lead in the first set, and although Taub and Cordell tried to force their way back into the set, Levy and Sugar upped the pace of their game and quickly found themselves serving to win the first set six games to one.

The second set was much closer with both pairs keeping serve. However, Levy and Sugar again found extra reserve to break their opponents, and as the set wore on, the Levy-Sugar combination was too strong and they held serve to win the match.

Maccabi GB's Sports Coordinator said: "It's great to see that sports like tennis not only generate great interest and enthusiasm, but are played at the standard we have witnessed today. It was thoroughly enjoyable to watch the match and congratulations must go to both finalists."

The finals for the masters categories will be taking place in the coming weeks. For more information visit: http//www.maccabigb.org
