Briton Goes To the Poles

...As Britain Goes To The Polls - Thursday 1st May 2008

Nick Griffin

For the past few weeks, the message has rung out across the country, and indeed on TJ.

On 1 May, in both the local and mayoral elections, we have not just an opportunity to vote - for those we want to represent us – but, more importantly, a duty to vote - against those we most certainly don’t want to represent us, namely the British National Party.

Today, that day has come, and it has fallen to no less a person than the Prince of Wales to illustrate precisely the kind of society we want Britain to be, and what we risk losing, if the BNP make headway.

In Krakow this week, our future king opened a WJR community centre for the local Jewish population – a project that he himself initiated and partly funded after being profoundly affected by his meetings with Shoah survivors during a trip to Poland in 2002.

"For both my wife and myself,” the Prince said on Tuesday, “… seeing some of the uses to which it's being put, has warmed our hearts.

"For me, it's very moving indeed to be able to join the Jewish community… who I know have suffered so much in the past”

A community, he added, who had "borne witness to the darkest clouds of human history".

Not just the words of a dignitary saying what’s expected of him, but a message from the heart of a man who time and again has demonstrated an interest in the wellbeing of all minorities and faiths, and whose own grandmother, let us not forget, is buried at Yad Vashem, a Righteous Amongst The Nations.

This week, as British Jews, we can be truly proud of the Prince of Wales. A UK resident and a member of the Church of England, his personal endeavours on behalf of a Jewish community overseas demonstrate the very essence of ‘tikkun olam’.

Contrast his words and actions with those of the BNP. “We, the native British people, will be an ethnic minority in our own country within 60 years,” their website warns, before demanding a halt to all immigration and promoting the ‘voluntary resettlement’ of all immigrants to their ‘lands of ethnic origin’. As for helping to fund the Krakow community centre Prince Charles, not to mention alleviating poverty and famine in other countries, sorry, but apparently it’s “time to spend money on our own people!”

And just in case you think you are one of those ‘people’, and that what they’re saying doesn’t really affect you, just check out the opening words of their mission statement: “The British National Party exists to secure a future for the indigenous peoples of these islands… We use the term indigenous to describe the people whose ancestors were the earliest settlers here after the last great Ice Age and which have been complemented by the historic migrations from mainland Europe.

The migrations of the Celts, Anglo-Saxons, Danes, Norse and closely related kindred peoples have been, over the past few thousands years, instrumental in defining the character of our family of nations.”
So the Ice Age Jews and Viking Jews are ok, but the rest of us don’t get a look in!

In short, today we have a choice: either to cast a vote and deal a blow to those who reject the ideals epitomised by Prince Charles; or to forego our trip to the ballot box and help them achieve power.

His Royal Highness went to the Poles this week and set an example. Today, we must go to the polls and follow his lead.
