Pedal Power In Trafalgar Square
A Jewish cycling enthusiast is getting set to light up Trafalgar Square next month, after winning a coveted spot in an art programme showcasing UK residents as living statues.
The One & Other concept is a 100-day project giving individuals a chance to stand atop the legendary fourth plinth next to Nelson - and architect David Rosenberg was this week named in the first batch of those chosen to be among the 2,400 'exhibits'.

The 41-year-old, who describes himself as "a bit of an exhibitionist" also revealed that the location holds special significance for him. Not only was he part of the architectural team that pedestrianised Trafalgar Square, but just a short time earlier, ironically, his uncle had been knocked down by a double-decker bus there, leaving him in a coma for six weeks.
The Barbican resident won't simply be cycling up on the plinth though. A key element of his performance will be a demonstration of pedal power, using the energy he exerts to light up a specially designed suit... and possibly Nelson's Column itself. Although not quite sure yet, what the electric display will consist of, David - who's slotted in to appear at 10pm - said: "We want to take advantage of the fact that it's night time, and we might perhaps make a subtle comment about how we're all capable of making our own energy and powering ourselves rather than relying on cars to get us around the city."
The programme will take place 24 hours a day for the full 100-day period, with each artist taking to the plinth for one hour each, as part of a concept created by London artist Antony Gormley. "I think it was a fantastic thing," said David, "that given this opportunity he decided to hand it over to everyone but himself."
• The event begins on 6 July and David's slot is at 10pm on 16 July. Slots are still open to applicants. For more information, visit www.oneandother.co.uk
