Jewish Designer's Role On Chantelle's Big Day

by Lauren Wallis - Thursday 24th August 2006

Flamboyant Jewish designer Elizabeth Emanuel, the creator of Princess Diana’s famed wedding dress, has revealed that her latest customer is none other than Celebrity Big Brother winner, Chantelle Houghton.

The 22-year-old from Essex, whose lavish nuptials are due to take place tomorrow, is set to marry Ordinary Boys’ lead singer Preston – who she met on the set of the hit show - in what looks set to be the showbiz ceremony of the year.

Although she wouldn’t give too much away, Elizabeth, 53, told the Jewish News that Chantelle’s gown has been her biggest venture since setting up her new design studio Art of Being. She added: “Although there was only a small team working on making the dress, it’s all been very exciting and we are happy that we have created the dress of her dreams”.

As well as transforming the Kandyfloss queen into a beautiful bride, Elizabeth has also just penned a new book, A Dress For Diana, which gives a behind the scenes account of the creation of the late Princess’s wedding gown.

Researching the book enabled Elizabeth and former husband David to pool together their memories and delve deep into the archives of all that went into designing the garment.

She explained: “For years, we have been inundated with emails about the dress, so we thought that it would be a good idea to compile our information into a book. It has pictures of the actual process, that have never been published before. We are very pleased with it.”
