Jewish Actor Joins Eastenders

by Devorah Richman - Thursday 24th August 2006

Fitting right in with the madness and mayhem of Albert Square, this week saw the EastEnder’s debut of the soap’s new Jewish star, Robert Kazinsky, who has taken on the dark and psychotic character of Sean Slater. Sharp, secretive and hell-bent on revenge, his role is definitely not kosher.

The 22-year-old actor from Surrey, who can speak Hebrew and who starred in Israeli television commercials, got his first big break in the Basil Brush Show in 2005 before going on to play Casper Rose in Sky One’s Dream Team.

Following in the footsteps of Leonard Fenton and Tracy-Ann Oberman, the latest Jewish thespian to take up residence in Albert Square made his first appearance on Tuesday when his character came face to face with long-lost sister Stacey Slater in the Queen Vic.

Reflecting on his role as a Walford bad boy, Rob says: “He’s the nastiest piece of work you could imagine. He’s smart and charming, but messed up in the head.”

And discussing the part with Inside Soap magazine, he added: “Sean gets darker and darker, so expect him to wind everyone up and hurt as many people as humanly possible.”

For Rob, EastEnders has served up a great opportunity to expand his repertoire. “I’ve done comedy, all my life,” he says, “and here I am now with a gritty, dramatic and downright scary character to play. It’s the sort of role every actor dreams of.”

However, the actor whose other skills include acrobatics and impressions, reveals that it’s taken some time to adjust to his new life in Albert Square. “Only when I saw my first scenes did I believe it wasn’t a total wind up. I’m here working with people I’ve watched for years. It’s wicked!”
