Attacked Man Out Of Coma

A man left in a coma for two weeks after being violently assaulted at his 30th birthday party has woken up and is making "good progress".

Darren Morris was left fighting for his life after being punched in the head during a dispute outside annie's bar in Kentish Town last month. The blow left him hospitalised.

A spokesman for Central London Hospital, where Darren is being treated,
said: "He is now stable and well and making very good progress. His position is much improved." Morris, from Chigwell, had rented out annie's to celebrate his landmark birthday on 12 June.The alleged incident took place outside the bar after midnight.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "A 30-year-old male was assaulted. It is believed to be related to a dispute concerning a private party inside."

The manager of annie's said: "We are helping police with their enquiries and have been asked not to comment on the investigations.
"The individual in question was a customer who was at the venue to celebrate his birthday. We are extremely glad, of course, to hear his condition has now improved."

Tony Murphy, aged 22, of Castle Road, NW1, was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm on 16 June.
He appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court last week and was released on conditional bail to reappear on 13 August.

Figures for the 12 months up to May 2010 show that 3.4 percent of local residents have been the victim of violent assaults in Kentish Town ­ up from
3.1 percent for the previous 12 months.
This figure is higher than the Camden total of 2.8 percent for the same period and significantly higher than the London average of around two percent.
