The Israeli champions were drawn in group B alongside French giants Olympique Lyon, Portuguese champions Benfica and German runners-up Schalke 04.
Gutman said: “We were given a reasonably attractive group. Obviously, none of the teams have the pulling power of Barcelona, but in the end, our goal is to represent our club and our country with honour.”
Hapoel begin their campaign on 14 September at Benfica.
Maccabi Tel Aviv are out of the Europa League, despite beating Paris Saint-Germain 4-3 in their second leg, losing out overall 5-4 on aggregate.
