Israel Announce Euro Squad

The Israeli football team kick off their euro 2012 qualification against Malta this week. Israel were drawn in group F alongside Croatia, Greece, Latvia, Georgia and Malta. Israel are looking to qualify for their first major tournament since World Cup 1970 in Mexico.

It's been 40 years since Israel last qualified [for a major competition],” Luis Fernandez said. “In our group, Croatia should emerge naturally. It's hard. After that, we must see where the Greek team is. They will participate in the World Cup. Then there are Malta, Lithuania, Latvia... our goal is to finish first. It's difficult, but it can be done.”

Midfielders: Tamir Cohen (Bolton), Almog Cohen (FC Nuremberg), Biram Kiyal (Celtic), Avihai Yadin (Hapoel Tel Aviv), Eran Zahavi (Hapoel Tel Aviv), Gili Vermouth (Hapoel Tel Aviv), Eyal Golasa (Maccabi Haifa), Lior Rafaelov (Maccabi Haifa), Yossi Benayoun (Chelsea), Maor Melikson (Hapoel Beersheva).
