HWFC withheld some early pressure from the home side with Coxy Mifsud making two excellent saves to keep the score at 0 – 0. After around 35 minutes and after a forced early substitution up front, HWFC carved out their first real chance after some excellent work from Catriona Forbes on the Right Wing. She ran past two defenders then crossed for Meroulla Lazarou to play in Deeple Patel at the far post, but a tame shot was scrambled wide.
Two more chances fell HWFC’s way before half time but both were squandered. A perfect corner on 44 minutes found Liz Berks in loads of space in the Katabella penalty area but her bullet header went wide.
The second half really opened up as a football match and both teams played passing flowing football looking to grab a goal on the break. Although Katabella were fluid in their passing they did not have enough upfront to out run Liz Berks, Claire Lewis and Lins Roberts. Lewis won every header that came her way and Berks and Roberts along with Elliot at the back cleared their lines at every opportunity.
There were three clear cut chances for HWFC to win this match but all went astray. After some excellent work in the middle by Anjana Gadgil and Forbes the ball was drilled into the penalty area to be met by Deeple Patel who just mistimed her shot as the goalkeeper saved. And two minutes later it was the same result, this time Lazarou hitting a shot from the edge of the area that seemed to slow up as it approached the keeper. It seemed to be a case of “not their day” as HWFC misfired up front.
HWFC were still attacking as the referee blew the whistle for full time and this week the points were shared. Next week HWFC take on Garston United FC at home.
