HWFC Fire Eight Past Norfolk
Women’s Sunday League
HWFC 8 Norfolk Chance FC 0

Starting brightly with some very crisp passing Maxine Chastanet opened the scoring on five minutes when chasing down a long ball through from midfield she was able to turn her defender and powered into the penalty area. With the goalkeeper stuck on her line Chastanet drove the ball into the bottom left hand corner for 1-0.
Kate “freeo” Freeman doubled the lead five minutes later when she linked up well with Bard in midfield. A slick one–two let Freeman turn on the edge of the box and she drove her shot past the despairing goalkeeper into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
Less than three minutes later, Sasha Stewart found herself clean through when Bard, slipped a ball through two Norfolk defenders. Stewart ran into the area leaving the other two Norfolk defenders in her wake before she looped the ball over the goalkeeper’s head for 3-0.
There was time for one more goal before half time with Stewart and Freeman linking well up front to create another opening. Freeman and Bard played some intricate passes before Stewart sprinted into the area. Leaning one way then another, Stewart wrong footed her marker and then leaning back curled a left-footed shot into the bottom right hand corner with the Norfolk goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
The second half started similar to the first with HWFC in total control. Three quick attacks led to a flurry of corners and at the third attempt, Freeman floated a beautiful ball into the six yard box. It was the attacking Chastanet who rose above everybody to head the ball into the roof of the net to make it 5-0.
Ten minutes later another great corner from Freeman found a Norfolk defender trying to clear the ball, yet she was only able to head straight back into her own net for the score to become 6-0 with a full 25 minutes remaining.
With the game safe, HWFC manager Brad Solomon made a couple of changes and HWFC went onto score two more goals although they should have scored three more had Stewarts half volley not hit the post from 15 yards out.
The seventh goal came on 70 minutes when Chastanet crossed the ball in from the right hand side. The ball fell to Celina Marcus in the penalty area who controlled the ball and turned in one movement before sliding the ball into the far corner. It was her first goal in three years.
There was time for one more goal with Lins Roberts moving up the field from right-back. She took on four players and then passed the ball out wide. The ball came back inside from Chastanet and Roberts drove the ball from a clear 30-yards out and it hit the roof of the net.
With five weeks to go before the first round of the FA Cup, HWFC are starting to find some form and this was a great performance all round.
