HWFC Back To Winning Ways
Hampstead Womens Football Club 4 Norfolk Chance FC 0
Sunday, 17 June, 2007
A simple move from kick-off saw Stewart and Caplin link up well before Caplin curled the ball into the top corner from just inside the penalty area.
Scorer turned provider two minutes later when after latching onto a through ball from midfield, Caplin turned her defender before passing the ball across the penalty area for the advancing Stewart who neatly slotted the ball home with her left foot.
Soon it was 3-0 when after winning a corner, Norfolk failed to clear the ball and with Lewis playing an excellent supporting role in font of the defense, found herself on the edge of the box and speculatively played the ball back into the box. The flight of the ball was perfect and everyone celebrated her first goal for the club as it lofted itself over the Norfolk goalkeeper into the top corner. There were more chances to increase the lead during the first half but HWFC failed to capitalise.
After the break HWFC took a stranglehold of the game and saw three shots hit the post before Stewart, back after a long lay off through injury, latched onto a poor goal kick and rounding her defender placed her shot from just inside the penalty area past the sprawling Norfolk keeper for 4-0.
There were two more chance for HWFC to complete the rout but both chances were squandered before the ref blew for full time.
After a poor start to the summer campaign, HWFC got back in their stride during this game and go into next week’s match against Milton Rovers FC high on confidence.
