HWFC Let Two-Goal Lead Slip
Summer League
HWFC 2 KPMG 3
Sunday, 3 June, 2007
Hampstead started brightly, peppering the KPMG goal with quick fire shots and within seven minutes were one-nil up after a slick move started on the left hand side let in Deeple Patel to score her first goal for the club.
The North Londoners doubled the lead on 15 minutes when Kate Freeo Freeman curled in an excellent corner for Anjana Gadgil to rise above the KPMG defenders to power a superbly accurate header into the top corner.
KPMG responded well by pulling a goal back before half-time with a well rehearsed move which saw them move the ball from defense to attack in four passes, and the KPMG striker made no mistake with her shot from 10 yards out leaving the HWFC goalkeeper no chance.
HWFC went out in the second half less confident then in the first, and it showed in their football. The passing game was not on display and KPMG sensed they could get something out of the game. They equalised with 10 minutes to go with an identical move to the first goal, although the Hampstead midfielders should have done better at clearing the danger in the middle of the park before the move started.
With two minutes to go, KPMG scored the winner with another excellent move carved out of midfield. Great link-up play and clinical execution saw the KPMG striker score her hat-trick when put clean through and although there was time for two Hampstead corners, there was no way back for the north London team.
The Summer league has started poorly for HWFC with only one point from two games, but most of the first team squad are back for the forthcoming games and the expectation is that with 13 games to go the team can still pull out a winning campaign.
The next match is on Sunday 10 June 2007 at 10.00am against Katabella FC from Camden Town.
