Glenthorne 'A' Like A Rudderless Ship

Glenthorne chairman Sid Shaw described the now-defunct Glenthorne A side as "a rudderless ship going nowhere", leaving him with no choice but to disband the side.

The final nail in the coffin came on Sunday, when the East Londonders, already rooted to the bottom of the table - lost twice against Hendon B in a double-header encounter, leaving Shaw to announce the club's decision at Monday night's mid-season meeting.

Shaw said: "We lost a lot of players over the summer, something we didn't expect, and that coupled with us not performing well and not getting the results left me with no choice.

"It's very disappointing, but we also didn't have a manager and the club was like a rudderless ship going nowhere.

"The majority of the players who played in the A's, were from the B's anyway - they were playing in the premier division, punching above their weight, which was why they found themselves where we were.

"It's more important that we keep the club going and that it doesn't fold completely and bearing that in mind, it's great that we have the B's still going - and going strong with manager David Blitz."
